Memorial Day is the biggest celebration in our little town in Upstate New York. We take our veterans seriously. People work hard to get their lawns and gardens ready and pretty for the parade to pass by their houses and everyone gathers to wave at the parade participants. This year, however, our town is working on digging a new sewer line to help the town comply with the Clean Water Act, so unfortunately, our yards are pretty torn up and muddy (in other words, you will not get to see any pretty photos of my yard).
This did not stop us from celebrating our veterans however.
The girls dressed up in their prettiest red, white and blue dresses...
...and gathered outside to await the start of the parade.
I snapped a quick shot while the first floats were passing by.
Hitty Veralyn's favorites were the marching bands.
We had three (if you include the town band riding on a float).
After the parade, the Weathertops all enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch.
Tea was served.
Games were played.
Boo took care excellent care of the baby...
...while Alice nibbled on tasty cakes.
Hitty Veralyn was just pleased to be a part of it all.
Happy Memorial Day!
