I read a lot of blogs...mostly because I like to gaze into the window of other cultures and see the way other people live but I also love to look at the photographs. It is like a revolving magazine that changes daily.
Recently, I discovered and have been inspired by Shawna Lemay of Calm Things. She is not only an intellectual, well-read and thoughtful mother, writer and poet, she is also a wonderful photographer who creates poetry with images. I love to pour over her photographs almost as much as her words. She has a couple of ongoing photography projects that I am aching to try. For one of these, she photographs an iron bird in different seasons, varying the light and the backdrop (mostly because the backdrop changes behind it with the seasons). You can see them here. Her photographs are beautiful and speak to me of the quiet passage of time in a way that words cannot. Wanting to try this project for myself, I went in search of a bird I could leave outside and found the very bird she has sitting on the railing in her backyard on ebay along with two companions. I could not resist aquiring them, even though I would prefer my project to be of a slightly different subject matter than the one she is conducting. I may change my birds at some point, but I received them today in the mail and couldn't wait to begin my project. I am hoping that by undertaking this project, my photography and editing skills may stretch and grow.
Incidentally, the wee plant in the first three photos is Judy's Lavandula Pinnata...and guess what, it has developed flower buds. I have been surprised by how much it has grown in the three weeks we've had it. I think it has almost doubled in size.
