This is my third time visiting the Huntslinger Farm, and I am pretty sure that this is where I picked up the tick that gave me Lyme Disease.
Check out these weeds...
I'm just saying...
If this is not the day I got the tick...I am not sure when I would have gotten it, unless it was back in the fall.
The day I visited, there was one lone poppy stranded amongst the tall grasses, swaying in the breeze. Later in the spring, there was a field of poppies, according to my neighbor, but by that time I was sick as a dog and I didn't care about poppies or anything else.
One poppy is more poetic though, don't you think?
I don't know what it is about this particular abandoned house, but it always inspires me. It could be the way the light hits it, but then again, the light, no matter what time of day I visit, seems perfect. Or it might be the intensity of the greens and the wildness of the garden.
My neighbor expressed a wish to own this house and rebuild it. She thinks it has good bones. I don't know about bones, but it does have a certain je ne sais quoi.
The thing is, when I visited this house, I did something I never really do. Because I was on foot, I went all the way onto the property, wading through deep grass to take pictures around the back of the house. I usually don't do this, because I usually drive my car to abandoned locations and it sits out front on the deserted road like a big tattle-tale. This time, I figured because I was on foot, I could hide if anyone came. I remember thinking that I needed to do a full tick check when I got home, but I don't think I did, which is also unlike me. I usually use a ton of bug spray when I am out in the weeds and I check every inch for stray hitchhikers. Shame on me, I blew it doubletime.
Though I like these photos...I am not entirely sure it was worth it. I would not wish Lyme on anyone. It makes you kind of crazy (although I know there are some that would say I am always crazy)...but in fact, you are really, really sick, but you don't recognize it in yourself.
I love the reflection in the window above...
OK, since I had to have Lyme, maybe it was worth it.
