Bolinas, California is an interesting little town. It is located on a peninsula sharing a lagoon with Stinson Beach. There is only one way in and out of town and the local residents are known for removing the sign telling would-be visitors where to turn in order to keep out the tourists. That having been said, Bolinas has lovely beaches, moves at a slower pace and marches to the beat of an entirely different drummer. Dogs frequently roam the town free of their owners, running down to the water for a little swim, checking out the local haunts. One might find this intimidating, but I have never seen an agressive dog in Bolinas. The dogs seem to be as mellow as their owners.
All in all Bolinas is a charming place to visit.
At the Coast Cafe on the main street, you can enjoy a variety of local foods while sitting at communal tables inside or out, or, if you prefer, there are a few private tables situated cozily in the windows and on the patio.
Coastal California towns often enjoy an early blanket of fog that burns off by noon and returns in the late afternoon to cool things off (this photo was taken out of a moving vehicle).
My in-laws were having a large Eucalyptus tree removed while we were there. I was impressed by the circumference of the stumps seen here enhanced by the small figure of Punch.
Having lived in a surfing community just north of San Francisco, I miss the surfer mentality. I love this sign.
