June's House

This post is the official final installment from our summer series "Going West 2010." It features my Mother-in-law's house. While the following are not vacation photos, per se, I think you will enjoy the lavish appointments of her abode.

Her house is indeed a visual feast filled with delicious shadows, streaming sunlight, treats and treasures of all shapes and sizes and smelling of savory roasts and home cooked goodness. 

Enjoy! It is just too bad you are unable to partake of the savory roasts...they were quite good!

The Big Apple...

Weekend before last we took the train into NYC to see my two grown nephews who are both living and going to school there. True to my nature, I took thousands of photos of things we saw but only a precious few of the people with which we spent time. Shame on me! I need to correct that.

We did see many nice things however.

We went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

We went for a walk in Central Park.

And in general just walked around and hung out.

We visited Times Square where unfortunately we met not a single cricket.

We saw the Empire State Building (safely from the ground, I might add)...

...and the Chrysler Building before hoofing it back to Grand Central Station for our train ride back to the car.

We all had a terrific time and we can't wait to do it again.

 

June's Garden...

With a name like June, you would expect a bountiful garden. Yes?

My Mother-in-Law's garden is no exception. It is varied and wandering and in places wild, containing rooms, if you will, and everything you might wish to find in a garden: tomatoes, apples, pears, kiwi, poppies, chamomile, herbs, sweet peas...plus she has wild areas that are allowed to flourish as they are which adds a nice texture to the overall effect.

(I must admit, I don't think I photographed this orange flower above in my MIL's garden, but I wanted to include it somewhere as it was so beautiful).

Sometimes the spent or fading flowers are just as pretty as the healthy young versions, besides I think they have something to say about the cycle of life. Don't you agree?

Pretty sure this one's a weed, but it has an interesting texture. No?

 

On the Beach...

It now seems like it has been a lifetime since we were in California, but one of my favorite memories of our trip was that we went to the beach almost everyday while we were there. Being nowhere near the ocean where we live here in New York, I miss it very much, and one thing I did not want to regret once we had returned home was having neglected the opportunity to enjoy the beach as much as possible while we had the chance, so we made it our habit to take daily walks.

The beach with Judy was contemplative. The beach with Punch, however, was exuberant.
