In which we have a parade of dresses

Do you remember at the beginning of 2009 when I committed to making 100 Dresses? In case you have forgotten, here is a link in case you need to refresh your memory. You probably do need to refresh your memory because I have been very remiss of late in working towards fulfilling that goal, and look, the year is already growing old and I am still in the 40's.

Well yesterday, I decided to take the bull by the horns, so to speak, and make a bevy of beautiful Halloween dresses, 7 dresses to be exact (one of which I will be reserving for an episode next week).

Here are dresses 43 through 49 (minus dress 48). Orange and black are so festive, don't you think? And these little ladies look like they are all dressed up and ready to go to a Halloween dance. Too bad we do not have any wooden gentlemen with which they can dance.

Here is the first set. Made from 100% cotton in a swirly black and orange print.

Oh my goodness, Hitty Dauphine is at it again. I didn't know that she was such a hooligan when it came to pranks. I hope she doesn't scare Hitty Bookish right out of her painted boots!

Hitty Dauphine is pretty attached to the dress she is wearing as she believes it compliments her naturally curly hair, but Hitty Bookish's dress is available for purchase. This one has SOLD.

It features an official Weathertop 100 Dresses Project tag.

Next up are a lovely set of plaid dresses.

Hitty Evalina seems to be whispering into Snowdrop's ear. If you are very quiet perhaps we could hear what she is saying...

"Can you believe that Hitty Dauphine? She is scaring yet another innocent victim. We are going to have to teach her a lesson..."

Oh my...it sounds like we have more drama in the works here at Weathertop.

Again, Evalina has her heart set upon keeping the dress she is wearing, but Snowdrop's lovely orange and black plaid dress is available for purchase. This one has SOLD.

It is dress number 49, in the Weathertop 100 Dresses Collection.

"BOO!"

It looks like Hitty Dauphine is not the only one who likes to play pranks at Weathertop. Dido Twite seems to like to scare her friends as well. Poor Holly D.

Well, her scary mask certainly goes well with the black and white skeleton dress she is wearing! I don't know if you can see it, but the skeletons sparkle.

Lest you think we have been completely idle, we do have a few dresses from our summer adventure that we never did offer for sale. Please see them below.

Do you remember when we visited the San Francisco Zoo on our Cross Country Road Trip this summer? These are the dresses Hittys Dauphine and Evalina wore and we made extras to share with you.

Oh my, that Evalina! What has she gotten herself into now!

Anyway, here are the extras, made especially for you!

Here is dress number 39 featuring red and gray zoo animals. This one has SOLD.

Here is dress number 41 featuring orange and yellow lions and giraffes. This dress is now SOLD.

And finally dress number 40...This dress has SOLD.

Finally, we are proud to offer the last set of dresses. These two would make a perfect sisters ensemble made, as they are, from coordinating fabric in 100% cotton. 

They are just perfect for a summer picnic or a walk on the beach.

They represent dresses 25 and 26 of the Weathertop 100 Dresses Collection.

Update: The blue dress is in a pending sale, but the green dress is still available.

In which the Raven doth quote, "Nevermore"

The girls have been working hard. Weathertop has been decorated and transformed. (You can click on the pictures to see them larger, then click the back button to go back to the text).

I am sure you will recognize several decorations from the Halloween festivities last year.

Becassine and Mrs. Witherwax have been busy in the kitchen. Methinks they have outdone themselves.

Hitty Bookish and tiny Butterbean, reading one of the Robertson Hitty books, are enjoying the festive ambiance and the warmth of the fire.

Meanwhile, in another part of the house, Hitty Evalina found herself alone, playing with her doll. If we could have but listened in, we'd have heard her singing a sweet little song. The very kind little girls sing to their babies when they think they are alone.

But the house was altogether too quiet for Evalina. "Where has Hitty Dauphine taken herself. It is boring playing all by oneself." She asked herself.

"I will have to go in search of some fun!"

So she put her dolly to bed and went in search of something more exciting to do.

She is nothing if not a tidy wooden doll.

After searching the house from the rafters to the cellar for some excitement and coming up woefully short, she decided to settle down next to the fire to read something a little scary.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

"Hmm-mm." She thought. "This sounds just like me." And she read on...

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
`'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; -

This it is, and nothing more,'

"Now this is more like it!" She said out loud to herself. "I want to be good and scared."

And on she read like before, reading deeper and deeper into the poem until the lilting rhyme revealed the fiendish knocker.

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore.
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door -
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door -
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

"A raven! Well, that's not scary at all. It's just a bird." She said with the tiniest bit of disgust out loud to no one, because frankly, there was no one there to listen. But despite her conviction that a raven is no ghoulish specter, she continued to read right to the very end of the poem, eyes wide with wonder and perhaps the tiniest bit of fright, if the truth be told.

`Be that word our sign of parting, bird or fiend!' I shrieked upstarting -
`Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
Leave my loneliness unbroken! - quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floorShall be lifted - nevermore!

And as she whispered aloud the final "Nevermore," she dared to look over her shoulder...only to find hovering there upon the back of the couch, a dark phantom glaring intently at her with its beady little eyes.

"EEEEEkkkk!" She screeched, jumping up so that her book fell to the floor at her feet.

"It's come for me now!" She yelled as she ran screaming from the room.

"It's only me!" Hitty Dauphine yelled after her, emerging from her hiding place behind the doorway.

"I didn't think I would scare her that much. I just wanted to make her jump." Hitty Dauphine muttered to herself. "Some people are just so melodramatic."

Hittys Dauphine and Evalina have requested that I post a picture of their fabulous raven dresses made for them by Happy H. They were just perfect for an autumnal reading of Poe, don't you think? We love them! Thank you Happy!

In which we have a cub scout weekend

Our entire weekend was devoted to Punch's cub scout activities.

Here are a few pictures from one stop on the whirlwind...

 
We went to visit the corn maze and partake of the many auxiliary activities.

In which we enjoy the last of the Bachelor Buttons

These are the last of the summer flowers. All the rest have been wilted by the frost.

 

I figure I'd better enjoy them while I can.
