Actually, I am not late at all but very early. I am posting my Mad Hatter Tea for Vanessa's most anticipated Mad Hatter's Tea Party at A Fanciful Twist a few days early on account of the chaotic goings on at my house. There will be many, many merry participants, so please visit her on Saturday for the full list, grab a cup of tea and come along for the ride. She is sure to have something scrumptious cooked up for you! If you are looking for my PINK SATURDAY post, just scroll down to the post below this one. Or feel free to enjoy both; it's a TWO-fer.
WARNING: I am choosing to take a very literal interpretation of "Mad Hatter's Tea."
Alice in Wonderland is one of my very most favorite Disney movies. (I am not an especial fan of the books however...please forgive my gauche-ness).
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Alice, who was very curious. She was so curious in fact that she got carried away and slipped down a rabbit hole into a whole new, wacky world. To follow Alice down the rabbit hole, you will have to shrink down to a more appropriate size. To help you with this, I think a little Jefferson Airplane is in order. Please wait through the weird silent part at the beginning...
(Click on the picture in picture icon in the lower right hand corner of the You Tube box to enlarge the viewer.)
Ah now, isn't that better? Now that you are a proper size, let's hurry up and follow Alice. I think I see her chasing a White Rabbit just up ahead.
I am afraid that White Rabbit is leading us on a wild rabbit chase. What do you think?
Being of a very small size, Alice drops further and further behind and finds herself lost among the flowers not knowing which way to turn.
It is a good thing she is among friends.
I wish I could sing along with the flowers. (Do you remember Dr. Shrinker on the Croft Super Show Saturday mornings? When I was little and living in Wisconsin, I used to dream about taking a trip to the Domes Arboretum in Milwaukee and by some terrible mistake shrinking to a very small size and having to live in the Domes. It's a magical thought isn't it? I figured everything would be provided there and it would be relatively safe.)
Now where did that Alice get to now. You turn your head for one minute...
Ah, there she is and she has found the Mad Hatter. At last, we're finally getting down to business. You dropped by for a tea party, right?
Luckily the party is underway and the Mad Hatter has invited Alice to pour.
Oh, but where is the Doormouse?
Ah...there he is. Now we have a full cast of characters.
We can finally settle down to some tea. I was getting a bit parched. How about you? Of course, with this lot, I don't think you can take anything for granted.
There seems to be quite a bit of crockery and no tea and scones.
Perhaps you'll find a more tantalizing repast on another blog (or you can check out the strawberry shortcake from my last post).
Today's post featured Tiny Ein-y as the Mad Hatter. (He needs to wash his hair, it's covered in glitter! BTW, we LOVE Tiny Ein-y...he is our car mascot!)
Hitty Dauphine as Alice, wearing dress number 33 and an apron by Donna E. (You can find out more about the 100 Dresses Project here.)
Connie Hardt's "Scabbers" as the Doormouse. (He is a bit bourgeois in his choice of cheese).
And a variety of Easter rabbits as the White Rabbit.
Thanks for stopping by. Please leave me a comment. I would love to
hear from you. I am at the hospital today with my daughter. She, as you
are probably painfully aware if you have been following my blog or know
me at all, is having her tonsils out today. So I will not be able to
visit any of your lovely Mad Hatter posts until the weekend. See you
then!
Please stay tuned. As soon as the fracas dies down here at
Weathertop, we are planning a big 100th Post shindig. We're just
waiting for our paper goods to arrive. I will let you know soon the
intended party date!
Judy came through her tonsillectomy with flying colors. She has been sucking back the water necessary to her recovery like a pro. And contrary to popular predictions, she has, so far, deported herself with the regal-ity of the Queen herself, suffering patiently through all of the pokes, prods and pain like one of noble birth, rather than one prone to melodrama. Of course, we have some difficult days ahead of us. The worst of the pain occurs on the 2nd and 3rd days I am told, so we're holding on for dear life. But so far, I am so very proud and impressed with her ability to deal with everything that has been thrown at her the last two days and KNOW that I could have done no better myself (rather, probably far worse). Thank you for all of your well wishes. I will give you a further update in a few days.
I am preparing my post for Pink Saturday early this week (Tuesday night) on account of my darling daughter having a tonsillectomy Thursday. Nothing for being organized like a couple of gargantuan tonsils. (She won't let me post a picture of her large, pink, BEFORE-tonsils, so don't run away, I won't be sharing them.
Instead, I thought I would share some more of my neighbors lovely flowers today. I have seven shots...I'll try to mix them up a bit.
Do they call these buds "apples?" I think they should. They look apple-like to me.
They are just so big and pink and ruffly.
I love that hint of yellow peeking from in between the petals.
I hope you enjoyed my Pink Saturday photos. If you are interested in more Pink Saturday fun, please visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for a full list of participants.
And can you imagine a prettier place to pick them than a warm, sunny valley nestled in the bosom of the Helderberg Mountains?
It is pretty exact work.
And it takes a lot of concentration.
I wonder if Punch found a worm? He is studying that strawberry pretty closely.
Judy picked one spot and picked it clean.
We all did a fair amount of this...
Some of us more than others...
In the end we picked six quarts.
Six quarts really isn't that much. We don't plan to can them or freeze them...only to eat them.
So we decided to share some with friends. (Look! There she is popping another one into her mouth!)
Look at this cutie that was picking alongside us.
In the end, it was such hot work that we had to have a little of this...
The orchard owner's were selling ice cream in their roadside stand. The stand-keeper told us that a local woman makes it for them out of the fruit from their fields. It was quite tasty.
I don't remember seeing any chocolate trees.
It was a rather decadent day. Tonight, for desert, we had this.
But then, we need decadence right now. Judy has her tonsillectomy in less than 36 hours.
I am scheduled to take part in Vanessa's Mad Hatter Tea Party on Thursday at A Fanciful Twist. I am trying very hard to work ahead of schedule because of Judy's tonsillectomy on Thursday morning, but if I don't make it quite in time, please come back to visit me sometime on Friday afternoon. I will try to get my post up by then.
By the way, Judy will NOT let me take a before picture of her tonsils. I was hoping to blog about it, sparing you the more gruesome details, but I think she wants to keep it private.
