Last week the weather was divinely beautiful. It was sunny and mild with gentle breezes. Ahhh, it was literally like a breath of fresh air after this long winter and we enjoyed each moment of it.
This week, on the other hand, dawned bleak, cold and rainy...well, cold is relative. Though chilly, it hasn't been as cold as it was this winter, but temperature is back down in the 40's and low 50's. I even lit the pellet stove last night for a little topping up 'o' the warmth in the house. It was cozy.
But today I was off the mountain for an appointment, and as I was whizzing along the country roads winding my way home, I began to see more and more hints of green on the trees and bushes. The willows are definitely beginning to leaf and some of the bushes along the side of the road have that lovely golden-green sheen of brand new springy leaf growth. Unfortunately, these enchanting signs of spring became fewer as I climbed the hill in my trusty van. But upon arriving home, I decided to take a little inventory up at the pond, because, well, you never do know, and I found that spring is bursting forth in small ways even here in the higher altitudes. You just have to take the time to look.
I love the little rain drops on the leaf petals. The leaves were far more developed on this bush than I would have expected.
Here is a different variety of leaf. I don't know what kind...
Look at this tiny little ferny moss. I have been wishing for some of the lovely moss terrariums that you can find on Etsy these days (click on the Etsy link to visit available moss terrariums). I love the idea of having a wee little moss garden. In fact some of them come in tiny vials affixed to earrings, necklaces and even rings (check out the links). Can you imagine? LIVE jewelry. What a wonderful idea!
My neighbors daffodils. I took this picture through the fence because they were not home to give me permission to go on their property, so I am sorry it is not the best framed and focused picture. It was also windy... They have the sweetest tiny little purple flowers in their front yard but it has been too windy for me to capture them on "film." I will keep trying. Isn't this variety delightfully ruffly?
I am planning to update the photographs of all of my jewelry for Etsy soon using some of these delicious props from nature. I don't think anything could provide a more delightful backdrop. I have been scouting for lovely mosses, fungi and logs and as soon as it is less rainy, I am all ready to go.
We're off to Cub Scouts now.
HAPPY EARTH DAY!
