Day Four of our Winter Respite.
I have a confession to make. I am absolutely addicted to fat quarters. I love all of their tantalizing rainbow colors. Take me to a fabric store, in this case JoAnn's, and you are sure to find me drooling in the fat quarter section like I was a kid at a candy store. They are like my candy (of course, I've said this before and candy is sadly also my candy, but you know what I mean...). What I love about them is that you can buy these little squares of happiness for a mere $1.49... and today, oh day of days, they were all on SALE. Can you hear the angel choir? Look at this bevy of beauties!
I have tons of these babies. One might ask, do you need to buy more fabric for your 100 dresses project? Well, yes, my friend, in fact yes I do!
I've got themes in mind. Themes and ideas and....
But recently I have been having a problem...I'm curious as to if anyone else has had a similar problem. I purchase my tasty little treats and when I get home and begin to take off the little "fat quarters" stickers, if you've been to JoAnn's you KNOW which ones I mean, and...
Sticker Shock...
Now, I drive about 40 minutes to get to JoAnn's; rectifying this problem is no small task for me. So the last time it happened I called up JoAnn's and told the nice sales representative about my problem. She laughed, laughed. And I said, "Surely you have had other people complain about this problem before." And she said, "NEVER!" with a laugh in her voice like I was just the silliest thing. I did find out that these fat quarters come to them pre-cut and stickered and ready to be merchandised, so the local store can do nothing about it but replace the fabric I bought, not very convenient for me. They really didn't even offer me an adequate suggestion for how to get rid of the sticker residue either, never having encountered this problem before.
What I'd love to know is if anyone out there in blogland has had a similar problem. Surely, SURELY I am not the only one to encounter this problem. If so, how did you solve the problem? I haven't tried washing because for small dress making, it is nice to leave the sizing in place. It helps to prevent fraying while I am sewing.
Okay, enough of that...we also went to Goodwill today. Another favorite place for us. Oh the treasures to be found. Judy was looking for old ties out of which to make roses. I will show you an example when she has finished one...
But what, you may ask, stops the heart of an 8 year old boy at Goodwill?
BONANZA! A slot machine bank!!! <deep sigh> Punch brings this to me, his heart clearly running over with excitement, and says with incredulity and 8 year old boy love, "Mommy, look at what someone threw away. Can you believe it? Who would throw away something like this." As if they were the crown jewels of England.
When I replied, "Punch, if you buy that, I will throw it away eventually. I am the kind of person who'd throw that away." He said to me with his eyes wide with innocence, " I will never throw this away. I will keep it forever." His voice already echoing with the spirit of possession. And he clutched said bank to his chest like it was the treasure of Captain Jack Sparrow himself. Later he ran up to me and added, "And Mommy, it works." As if this were an ancillary issue.
He and Judy, in fact, have had a lot of fun this evening putting money into the bank and then pulling the lever trying to make the money shoot out. Punch has actually made a fun, bowling-like game out of this process where he sets his mini robots (purchased out of the gum machine at the grocery store -- I swear, why do we buy this boy fancy toys?) in a row in front of of the money trap so that when the money shoots out they will all fall down. Hurray! So much fun! Squeals of delight!
Oh to be a child!
I love that little guy!
Tomorrow we are going to see Hotel for Dogs with friends and then both Punch and Judy have dinner/sleep over playdates. And I will show you where I keep my candy shoppe of fabrics. Whoopee! Hurray! So much fun! Squeals of delight!
Oh to be a Mommy!
