It has been a rather exciting, if at times, scary weekend.
During a silent ice storm, we lost power on Thursday night and went without electricity for two days. It is amazing how dependent we are on electricity. When we used to live in California, I'd live for power outages. It meant slowing down and remembering the simplicity in which people use to live. But you see, in California, we could light an array of candles, which was always so sparkly and pretty, and not worry about freezing to death because it wasn't that cold, AND we could cook on our gas cooktop, so our basic needs were covered.
Here in cold NY, we not only could not cook and stay warm without electricity, for our pellet stove needs electricity to run the blower, we could not run the water or flush the toilet as we need electricity to pump water from our well. It felt absolutely barbaric. And even more barbaric, even after the electricity came back on, we could not access the internet...horror of horrors. We are ridiculously dependent little people.
The good news is that I married MacGyver and he totally saw to all of our needs. He is the best Lovey in the world! He hooked our house up to a generator and kept us warm-ish, and in the end, it was, dare I say, kind of fun, like camping out in 17 degree weather.
At the end of the storm, the sun came out and turned the world into a Cinderella playground with sparkly glass trees and plants. Everything was turned to diamonds and the world was a glittery fairyland in every direction you turned. Unfortunately it did not photograph well or I would share it with you. But believe me it was breath-taking. I never understood those Christmas tree ornaments that look like they are covered in fake glass but now I want a whole tree covered in them. It was magical.
Here are the few pictures that did turn out well.
I am wishing power, warmth and happy tummys to all of you out there in the world! I am thankful to be safe and warm and back to life as we know it!
Later this week I will share with you Dresses one, two, three and four (or really 3, 4, 5, and 6, since I already had 1 and 2) of my 100 Dresses project, for I have been busy and I am anxious to share them with you.
