In which the woodens have a Thanksgiving adventure

This year Hittys Dauphine and Evalina were able to fly to Texas and celebrate Thanksgiving with their cousins, the Georgetown Hittys.

After welcoming them, the Georgetown Hittys helped to make them as comfortable as could be in a little corner of the guest room by laying out cushy mattresses and warm quilts.

As they got ready for bed, Dauphine and Evalina felt quite cozy in their flannel jammies and quite at home in their comfy corner, but they were glad that they brought some friends for extra comfort.

 

After a good night sleep, the girls all discussed, over a delicious Thanksgiving coffee cake, the kind of adventure they'd like to have in Texas.

 

Some people were feeling a little greedy and forgot to mind their manners.

 

What they decided to do was to go treasure hunting outside to see what they could find.

 

 

First they climbed up into the Oak tree to see if they could find any acorns, but it turns out that all the acorns had already fallen and many had been eaten by deer, but they did find a little hoard lying in the grass under the trees.

 

After finding their pile of souvenirs, they decided to check out the garden.

There were still a few flowers blooming. This is Texas after all.

 

 

 

While they were in the garden they found a few friends.

 

One of them agreed to give Evalina a ride on his back.

When Thanksgiving day finally rolled around, everyone helped to put the feast on the table.

 

 

Everything was delicious...

 

...and it was soon time for desert.

 

Everyone ate until their little tummies were stuffed.

Soon enough the last morning of their Texas Adventure dawned and the girls prepared to say goodbye. The Georgetown Hittys prepared them a tasty meal of leftovers before they had to leave to catch their plane home.

 

 

It had been a wonderful Thanksgiving adventure!

Now it is time to get home and start decorating for Christmas!

I am thankful for special days and family -- Final Quest Day

It is the 26th day of my quest...the final day...the day during which all of our thankfulness culminates into one big celebration. It has been fun for me to share with you all of the things that make my life brighter.

In which I am thankful for words -- Quest Day 25

Today I am thankful for words...

 

....without which we would have a harder time communicating.

I say "harder" because I realize that sometimes words are not enough, sometimes they get twisted and turned and misunderstood and then they fail horribly, but words make our existence that much richer and more vibrant. They allow us to express our feelings, say "I love you" or share our pain.

 

They allow us to tell people what we want or tell people what it is they want to hear. They allow us to sing or to wax poetic. For the most part, words are good.

I am also thankful for time spent playing with my family. As you might have guessed, we played Scrabble tonight.

In which I am thankful for the color brown -- Quest Day 24 Part II

This is the time of year that everything has turned brown.

Sometimes the lack of color saddens me. I miss the vibrant colors of spring and summer. But there is something to be said for a world painted in monochrome. Amongst that depressing lack of color can be found the most intricate textures that catch and play with the light in tantalizing ways.

 

 

 

The light caresses shapes so delicately and shadows play demurely in their crevices.

 

 

While the dulling of color, the deeping browns, suggest the end of a cycle, the death of things that once thrummed with life...

 

...the windswept tundra of a winter landscape...

 

...life lies hidden and protected for yet another spring, another summer.

 

Today I am thankful for the color brown and the life that lies hidden and secret.

Here is one of my favorite songs right now written and sung by Polly Paulusma. In it she talks about the life that springs out of the cracks of life. It's appropriate for this time of year I think. She went on a tour during which she played and recorded all of the songs from her album Fingers and Thumbs in different music stores using available instruments being offered for sale.
